CVD vs. HPHT: What’s the Difference in Lab-Grown Diamonds?
By Jasmine Waltz
Now that we know lab diamonds are real diamonds, let’s talk about how they’re made.
There are two main growth methods:
1. HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) mimics the earth but can leave metallic inclusions or yellow tints, often requiring treatment.
2. CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) a cleaner, layer-by-layer process using carbon-rich gas. Results in diamonds with: Better clarity, fewer flaws, greater purity and more sustainable production
Most CVD diamonds are Type IIa, the rarest and purest diamond type (found in only ~2% of natural diamonds).
For purity, consistency, and sustainability, CVD is the gold standard. It’s what I trust, wear, and offer in every piece I create.
