Buying a Lab Diamond? Don’t Skip This New Grading Tip

Here’s How to Spot a Premium, Flawless-Looking Stone

By Jasmine Waltz

Now that we have the option to choose lab-grown diamonds, it’s important to understand what sets them apart, and what makes one better than another.

GIA recently updated their grading system for lab diamonds. Instead of full breakdowns for color and clarity, they now use two simple categories:

Standard: great for small pavé and accent stones.

Premium: ideal for center stones and larger pieces.
Premium lab diamonds are cleaner, more consistent, and often grown using CVD, the highest-quality method available.

So if you’re choosing a centerpiece that catches the eye, quality isn’t negotiable. Look for CVD-grown, premium-grade diamonds. It’s the closest thing to flawless.
